PGD Quick Tutorial: Clipping Photos to Words

Check this out! Christine over at Pixel Gypsy Designs has posted a quick and easy tutorial to Pixel Gypsy University. This tutorial shows you how to create a title or other words that are "cut" out of your choice of photo. Here's an example Christine showed of a beautiful page she created using this technique:

So "RUN" on over to PGDU and learn how easily you can do this on  your own scrapbook pages! (Pun intended... sorry! ;) )

National Scrapbooking Day ~ this Saturday!

So this Saturday is National Scrapbooking Day ... we scrappers are well aware of this awesome day celebrating our favorite pastime. And yet I just spent the last several minutes convincing my *husband* that it is "for real!" lol There will be some awesome online celebrations all over the internet, with plenty of events for digital scrappers as well as traditional and hybrid scrappers. For those of you doing digi, like me, I wanted to share this *amazing* DOORBUSTER sales event going on over at my favorite digi community ... Pixel Gypsy Designs.

While you're there grabbing some awesome scrapping supplies, be sure to stick around for the special NSD Speed Scrap at 4pm (Eastern). You might also want to check out the monthly challenges going on at PGD - you can win the entire store if you just get the most points for the month!

Well, I hope to see you all around PGD on Saturday, and maybe even more than that if you stick around to check out PGD & see why it's my favorite place to be! :D

Smoke & Coal & Heavy Metal

Smoke & Coal & Heavy Metal.

No, not some special effects at a rock concert... ha ha! :D No, actually I spent the day with my hubby at our friend Pawnee's annual Hammer-In. A fun, all day event for those interested in the old-time craft of blacksmithing. Three men have forges going - one in a shop & two under open-sided tents. Each man has their own style, their own niche in the world of blacksmithing. Each has a unique way of demonstrating their craft and of engaging the observers. The observers range from those simply wanting to see old-time craftsmanship in action, to novice smiths anxious to learn techniques, to experienced smiths there to swap favorite techniques and share their knowledge with the group. Amazing stories were swapped on many, many topics - blacksmithing, of course, but also stories of hunting, military service, motorcycles, and much more. There was a real nice potluck lunch, too. It was, as always, a fun, interesting, and educational day.

The three demonstrators today were:

Francis "Pawnee" Buckley - Metal Artist Gallery

Ray Rantanen - RaysKnives.com

Bob Alderman - Tracker's Forge

(Ray Rantanen with sparks flying!)

One of the best highlights of today was when one of the demonstrators, Ray, decided I'd been so "quiet and watchful" that I should receive one of the wonderful creations he was working on!  While we watched, he created a very beautiful, decorative (yet fully usable) fire poker. He even customized the handle for this left-hander! :D Ray followed this up by giving Jim (my hubby) a few items, as well, including a nice coal rake for use in Jim's own forge. And then he made a beautiful letter opener which also was given to me!

(My poker! Ray told us how to finish it up with a bit of sanding & polishing wax, which we'll be doing right away.)

It was such a treat! I must say, though, the real treat was the warm and wonderful conversation Ray carried on with those of us gathered around. We truly enjoyed our visits with each of the demonstrators, each of who has impressive abilities with anvil and hammer. Be sure to check out their sites and galleries - you will be amazed!

Sunset Palm Trees

Have you ever sat and watched the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean? I had that wonderful, awesome privilege a couple years ago when hubby and I traveled to southern California. We were in San Diego and drove out to Sunset Cliffs to sit on the red rocks and watch the glorious scene unfold before our eyes. It made the emotions just well up inside to see the limitless beauty of God's handiwork. I took many photos that evening, and plenty on other evenings there from other vantage points. On one evening I caught a couple palm trees silhouetted against the colorful sky at dusk. I decided to scrap that particular photo today, and I just love the results.

All Kinds of Fun!

Hi all! I've been having a great time creating some new layouts, and I've also been getting out into some wonderful spring weather for some hikes & geocaching with my hubby. Last week we hiked a steep, rocky trail - the Mickinnick Trail. It was beautiful! Yesterday we went out and hiked most of the Long Bridge at Sandpoint - had the unusual opportunity of getting to visit with lots of folks in their cars as there was quite a long line of traffic sitting still waiting for a crash to be cleared near the other end. The crash was a shame, of course, but the visiting was a delightful & unexpected bit of fun. Afterwards, we just had to stop in at our favorite Irish pub for dinner - MickDuff's always hits the spot! :D

If you haven't been over to PixelGypsyDesigns.com today, you ought to head over there and click on New Products - there are sooo many new things and some new designers, too! AND, as today is Fantabulous Friday at PGD, you can get any of the new products at 30% off! As a Guest Gypsy Girl at PGD this month, I had the privilege of playing with several of the new kits in my latest layouts. Here are a few to share with you:

Fly Fishing in Spring

Yep. Hubby went fly fishing already this season ... a week ago today! It was a beautiful sunny day for the most part, and Grouse Creek was just too welcoming! Unfortunately, the fish weren't nibbling a bit, but he got to walk a good portion of the creek and I got to take some nice photos when I picked him up! :D

Meerkats Are So Cool!

I just love meerkats - they are soooo fun to watch! I took this pic of a meerkat two years ago when we visited the San Diego Zoo. I decided he'd be perfect to use in the latest Pixel Gypsy Designs Blog Template Challenge, along with the Wild Things (Zoo) kit from PGD.

Clowning Around & A Garden Visitor

I had a lot of fun playing with the clown stickers in the latest kit from Inspired Mommie Designs: Under The Big Top. I've been dressing up as a clown since I was very young, so a kit full of clowns and clown cars is just too much fun!

I also loved the gorgeous purple/lavender papers in the kit, and couldn't resist doing something totally different with those, hence my layout using lavender and oregano blossoms!
